Introducing ePFE

ePFE™ is a unique, patent pending, co-molded technology that combines the chemical and thermal stability of perfluoroelastomer (FFKM) with the dynamic properties of more traditional materials. The outer layer consists of high quality perfluoroelastomer (FFKM) which encapsulates an elastomeric inner core. Examples of core materials include fluoroelastomer (FKM), fluorosilicone (FVMQ), and silicone (VMQ). Choosing the right inner core material is largely dependent upon each specific application.
Why Use ePFE?
ePFE has a number of unique qualities:
- It can be used to manufacture much larger seal profiles and sizes than is typical for more traditional perfluoroelastomer seals. Profiles up to 1" in diameter are not uncommon.
- Use of a more resilient (lower compression set) inner core will allow ePFE seals to perform better than standard perfluoroelastomer seals.
- ePFE increases the intrinsic value of the seal because the outer layer (which is subjected to the aggresive chemicals and/or temperatures) comprises a much smaller percentage of the overall seal which optimizes the use of highly expensive perfluoroelastomer. In some instances, up to 70% of a seal can be manufactured of inner core materials without compromising its chemical and/or thermal stability.
Why Pawling?
Noted especially for innovation with inflatable seals, Pawling has a history of challenging convention and solving tough problems with inventive yet thoroughly practical solutions. We are used to directly dealing with customers on highly engineered, uniquely specific seal applications - even when only one seal is required. This culture plus a deep understanding of sealing technology basics, is what drives our expansion into the perfluoroelastomer sealing market. Contact us today to discuss your application.
